The Office of Inspector General of the USPS has commissioned a study by Stanford's Value Chain Innovation Institute on the impact emerging technologies may have on the final, crucial link in any e-commerce transaction: the last mile. This is where the rubber used to hit the road, but may soon take to the sky among other things. For the first time in a very long time, more adults age 18-34 are living with their parents than with a spouse or significant other. Going back to around 1880, the prevalent domestic situation for young adults was shared with a spouse or partner in a household of their own. This arrangement peaked around 1960 at 62%. According to a survey conducted by the Pew Research Center, 2014 saw this number dip to 31.4%, below the 32.1% living with parents. (This is not the all-time high - 35% -  which occurred in 1940.) Many factors seem to be contributing to this trend; lack of a college degree,...

The United States Postal Service is aggressively promoting its delivery truck fleet as a de facto brand extension of the businesses for which it fulfills orders. Based on volume, the argument begins with a pledge of service quality to the shipper, and asserts that businesses which use the USPS for delivery benefit from its brand recognition as a statement of solidity. Direct response, mail order businesses may indeed gain credibility with prospects by annexing the assurance associated with USPS delivery to their own brand image.
