Prices may vary greatly depending upon the type of list, quantity ordered, selectivity specified and minimum order requirements. As with most other things, higher volume yields lower price, so large list orders cost less per thousand names than small ones. The exclusivity of the list selects is also a factor (remember the lesson about scarcity in economics?). This is often part of a negotiation between your broker and the owner of the list. Up-to-date quotations are available for any type of list from a reputable broker, such as Infinite Media.
A broker will normally charge a minimum price for names and addresses in a zip code or region, or so much per name. If you then want the list sorted by homeowner, this adds an additional cost. To sort by age or anything else adds more to the cost. Every sort adds to the cost. (This extra expense may be well worth it depending on the size of the original list, since you will target the exact people that you want to receive your mailing, with little wasted money.)
In any case, the rate of the charge is expressed in CPM, or Cost Per Thousand. So, if the CPM for a list is $100, you are paying $100 to mail to one thousand people ONE TIME. Remember that the cost for a list or list selects is usually for one time use unless otherwise negotiated.
Note: The list owner includes 'seed' names in each list. Seed names are dummy records that become part of the mailer’s campaign. If a seed gets solicited more than once, then the list owner will know that the record was mailed a second time on unauthorized basis.
